Can I save money by installing my system?

You can be certain that they will select the appropriate equipment for the job, while streamlining the maintenance required to keep your landscaping in top shape. A contractor can do the job faster, with less disruption to existing landscape, and will guarantee his work.
Are there different system to choose from?
Although every system should be tailored to meet your individual needs, a typical system will be comprised of a controller (which functions as the brains of the system), valves (which open and close to release and stop the flow of water to underground pipes) and sprinklers (which actually distribute the water to a given area). It's best if all components of a system are manufactured by the same company in order to ensure that they are designed to work well together.
We get 1000 mm of rain a year. Do we really need a sprinkler system?
If it rained at your house every three days – the same exact amount each time – you probably wouldn’t need a sprinkler system. But nature doesn’t work that way, and the only way to ensure healthy, lush growth is to make certain your lawn and plants receive a regularly timed, evenly measured amount of water. In the dry season, when there is little or no rain, your yard can suffer damge after just a few days without water.
I want to irrigate using water from a lake/stream. What do I need for this?
Many sites today are successfully using untreated water from lakes, streams or wet-wells to irrigate. Of course, this does require special equipment. You will need a pump to move the water and to provide water pressure for your system. You will also need a dirty water filter to make sure that debris (even from the cleanest lake or stream water) does not clog your sprinklers.. While Rain Bird does not manufacture pumps, our equipment is compatible with most pump choices.
Why do I have dirty water, and if I have dirty water, what should I do?
Some areas have secondary water systems, pump systems or backyard wells to supply water to sprinkler systems. Invariably, these water sources have a lot of debris, sand, moss, seashells and other contaminants in the water which are not trapped by the inlet screen. These particles act as miniature drills and damage valves, fittings and heads during sprinkler operation. To eliminate most of these problems, Rain Bird recommends installing a filter on the mainline. There are a variety of types, but we recommend a "Wye" or "Tee" filter that can be easily accessed and cleaned. Look for a stainless steel filter if your water is particularly grimy. Be sure to search for a filter that will handle enough water flow.
How much will a good irrigation system cost?
